Mixing Tips

    General
  • Start with the cheapest ingredients (the syrup) first.
  • Mise En Place
  • Keep all equipment and ingredients within range. It will be easier and faster to mix the drink.
  • Ice
  • Try to add the ice cubes into the glass by the end. Do it carefully. Otherwise, you might spill the liquid, or due to the acid of the citrus juice, you will create a lot of foam that spills over.
  • Glassware
  • A chilled glass keeps your drink longer and more enjoyable. Your used ice will melt slower, and the taste will stay longer.
  • Non Alcoholic Ingredients
  • Make sure your carbonated filler is cold and fresh.
  • Try to keep the homemade syrup constantly refrigerated. It will often have a shorter expiration than store-bought syrups.
  • Garnish
  • Always use fresh herbs for the garnish.

Editor Recipe Notes

During Spring and Summer time, you always pass by elderflower trees. They give such a pleasant scent while blooming. So it is the best time to harvest the flowers and make a syrup out of them.

We are using simple white wine, some sugar, and elderflowers.
Once we make the syrup, you can keep it refrigerated for several months.
The taste and scent differ from the usual Elderflower Syrups you can buy from certain syrup producers.

It pairs very well with juniper and rosemary.

So we decided to make a fizzy herbal drink out of it. We used the HYGGE Gin to give it a good backbone, the lemon for acidity, and some rosemary to combine all those flavors and make them perfect for a beautiful summer drink.
