Dirker Haselnuss

Dirker read in an old book of attempts to distil a hazelnut brandy that failed because the fine nut aroma would not come over in the still. After several failures of his own, his friend the pastry chef Ingo Holland advised him to roast the hazelnuts first; Dirker went home, roasted and distilled. The result is a spirit that smells and tastes powerfully of nut and nougat, made, as the label says, with freshly roasted hazelnuts, cocoa beans, vanilla pods, herbs and spices.
