Weingut von Winning in Deidesheim is one of the great estates of the Pfalz: founded in 1849, named after Leopold von Winning, a co-founder of today's VDP, and farming some 50 hectares from Neustadt-Haardt to Forst — Riesling above all, with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
- Raw materials
- Grapes from the estate's own 50 hectares of vineyards between Neustadt-Haardt, Deidesheim and Forst, planted densely with up to 12,500 vines per hectare and farmed without herbicides, insecticides or mineral fertiliser.
- What makes it distinctive
- Spontaneous fermentation in wooden casks of different sizes and long lees contact, with as little filtering and pumping as possible and no fining — a cooper's workshop belonged to the estate from the start, proof that its wines were always fermented in wood. Its barrels of Sauvignon Blanc I also finish STORK CLUB's Wine Barrel Series rye whiskey.
